Have a 1988 lincoln lsc. car won't shift into 3rd in d gear,but will in d2. what should i do?

TV bushing on the throttle is cooked. (outboardmost cable) A failing bushing will make the AOD transmission act wierd, running a shot bushing will destroy the transmission.
