If i have a cfw 3.40* v3 for my phat psp, do i still need a pandora battery to upgrade to cfw 3.71 m33?

i just got a psp from my friend and he already put the custom firmware on it and i don't have a pandora battery nor magic memory stick to update and i want to try and get the m33 homebrew hacks
