My five month old er spaniel has an excited peeing problem please advise?

The little guy's name is Greg, and he only pees when he's excited. The biggest trigger is that when he has been alone, either confined out of a room i'm in or left home even for a few minutes, as soon as he greets me he wizzes. I read some helpful advice on random websites, and one suggested ignoring him when i first come home, so the greeting isn't so exciting. the problem is he's so happy to see me that HE approaches ME and pees all over my feet jumping up to see me. If i lock him out of a room that i'm in, he will cry at the door until he falls asleep and then immediately pee on me when i come out. his paws reek of urine and he needs washed every day because of this. does anyone have some real advice, from someone who's been through this? thankyou
